Updated Response from Hawkesley Medical Practice – Weight Management (Tirzepatide/Mounjaro)- NHS Birmingham and Solihull
You may have heard that from 23.06.2025 GP’s can prescribe Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for weight loss.
We recognise there has been significant media attention about the national rollout of this drug in primary care and patients have already begun to ask questions about how this will be accessible to them via the practice.
However, the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board ( BSOL ICB) is still finalising how this will be provided. It is expected to be offered through local clinics, as there has been no planning from the ICB to provide it via GP practices.
Initially, the treatment will be available only to people with a BMI over 40 who have four weight-related health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.
This service is not yet operational. Please do not book appointments specially to request this medication at this time, as it cannot be provided yet.
We will notify you as soon as this service is available. When it starts, eligible patients will be invited to participate. Doctors will review patient records to identify those who qualify.
We recognise that it will be disappointing for patients who will not be eligible for Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) on the NHS.
